Located at 29 St Nicholas St, Scarborough, El Gringos offers an enchanting dive into the realm of Tex-Mex cuisine. Customers rave about the warm atmosphere and the friendly, accommodating staff who go above and beyond to ensure a pleasant dining experience. With a vibrant ambiance reminiscent of Mexico, the restaurant has been commended for its delightful decor.
Many have noted the exceptional quality of the food, highlighting the bold flavors and generous portion sizes. Ben Shillabeer-Hall appreciated the quick service and affordable prices, while Luke Bland praised the cocktail selection and the array of menu options, including a dedicated kids menu. Although some mention minor discomforts such as seating and hygiene in the restrooms, the overwhelming consensus is that the quality of food and service more than compensates for these shortcomings.

The enthusiasm of the staff, especially highlighted by Rowland Baxter's birthday celebration, adds to the establishment’s charm. Staff were incredibly friendly as always, I'm an incredibly picky eater and they were super pleasant when I asked for just the ribs and fries. Overall pleasant experience, fast service, friendly atmosphere, good prices. Might even try something other than ribs one day!

Really nice restaurant, very good atmosphere and vibe too. The restaurant is quite small so it is best to book a table to avoid disappointment. They have a great range of cocktails and drinks, plus a great menu with lots of options including a kids menu. The food is a little expensive but it is worth it as it tastes amazing and portion sizes are massive. Food came fairly quick and staff were so friendly and helpful. They have lots of things in place for covid 19 too such as staff wearing PPE, screens between tables and hand sanitizer. The only downsides were the chairs where a bit uncomfortable and had a numb bum and the toilets were a bit unhygienic. Over all properly the best restaurant in town, will definitely be going again and would recommend.

Highly recommend El Gringos the staff couldn't do enough for us and nothing was too much trouble they really look like they like to be there. Now onto the food, oh my goodness amazing flavours cooked exactly how it should be. You would think you were in Mexico lol. The place is decorated very well and in a quirky Mexico setting which adds to the atmosphere. If you want a great experience with good food pay this place a visit

Such a great place! Airy, welcoming and filled with the sound of people pleasantly relaxing. Background music remained (mercifully) in the background. The place had a wonderful atmosphere, helped by the enthusiasm and friendliness of the staff. The food was beautifully cooked and presented with fresh ingredients. The drinks were spot on, too. Definitely a welcoming and happy place, well worth a visit.

We managed to obtain a booking late on Saturday, booked via ‘messenger’, we were greeted and looked after by Lucy who was very helpful and engaging, she made my birthday meal with friends a very nice experience. We had a great time and a good laugh, the food was very good and we all really enjoyed our evening. Thank You to all the staff and especially to Lucy.

First of all I decided to take no pictures of the building itself, it's currently undergoing massive renovations and I decided it would be unfair to show it as it is, don't be put off by the work, the food is great. We started with the nachos, it's ment for one but it's huge and will easily feed two as a starter, it was also excellent with properly melted cheese (far too many places don't do this). Next up was a chicken and beef chimichanga served with rice and black beans, again this was excellent, I went for the hot variety (you get to select the heat) it was warming, but not overly hot, although heat is a matter of taste. My partner had the chilli bowl, the bowl itself is a crispy tortilla, this was medium and again was delicious. The place is informal and child friendly, the staff are polite and friendly. The portion sizes are large and incredibly good value for money. Again don't be put off by the current building works you won't be disappointed by the food.

Booked a table over the phone. Staff were super friendly and table was already ready for when we arrived. Prices were great. We had the BBQ hot honey wings which were really tasty but mostly BBQ. Chicken was super soft though and tasty. Fajitas were lovely great portion size and very tasty. Gland slam was great, highly recommend the ribs they were lovely! Overall, lovely food and service, will definitely be back again
